Characterisation
This type of work is done through a system of environmental categorisation, which makes it possible to prioritise mining sites for mitigation work. The characterisation studies identify mining sites for detailed investigation, which includes physical, geochemical and socioeconomic issues, community relationships and an assessment of mineral resources. It uses a calculation system based on 23 different criteria, split into three groups: physical, geochemical and socioeconomic.
With the prioritisation system, pollution-generating sites and pollution receptor sites (affected waters, soils and populations) are identified within industrial mining areas and their environs.
The regions undergoing this work are as follows:
- Bolsa Negra Mining Center
- Colavi Mining Center
- Colquechaca Mining Center
- Grupo Santa Fé Mining Center
- Huanuni Mining Center
- Matilde Mining Center
- Viloco Mining Center
