Works

Works performed by DIMA

In the past, tailings dikes exposed to the elements were the main cause of pollution.

As a result of erosion from wind and water, the wastes produced by these dikes polluted the environment, affecting farm production and the quality of life. This situation affected the lives of the inhabitants of the mining centres.

The works done by DIMA within these mining centres have helped to reduce environmental risks in mining areas and have had a positive impact on the quality of life of the local inhabitants. This has brought about:

  • Reduced direct contact with mine wastes, thus improving the inhabitants’ health.
  • Decreased risk of lost farming and livestock capacity along the Cotagaita River basin.
  • Minimisation of conflicts between residents, peasants and miners.

Seventy percent of the financing resources for carrying out these projects have come from a donation from the Danish Goverment and 30% are from the Bolivian Mining Corporation.
